DOST OFFICIALS ATTEND 72nd MEETING OF THE ASEAN COMMITTEE ON SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN BRUNEI DARUSSALAM

Officials from the PHL’s Department of Science and Technology (DOST), led by Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, Undersecretary for Research & Development cum ASEAN COST National Chair for the PHL, attended the 72nd Meeting of the ASEAN Committee on Science and Technology (COST-72) and Related Meetings on May 22-25, 2017 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in Bandar Seri Begawan.

Hosted by the PMO, said Meetings were attended by over 100 delegates composed of science and technology officials from ASEAN member-countries, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.

The ASEAN COST-72 and Related Meetings focused on the review, evaluation, and guidance on the implementation of resolutions for upcoming higher-level dialogues, such as in the ASEAN Summit and Dialogue, Partner Summit, ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology (AMMST), and the Informal ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Science and Technology (IAMMST). The Meetings also discussed the implementation of the ASEAN Plan of Action on Science, Technology and Innovation 2016-2025 (APASTI), as well as new projects and initiatives to be undertaken.

Members of the PHL delegation include Dr. Leah J. Buendia, Assistant Secretary for International Cooperation at the DOST; Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, Executive Director, Philippine Council for Health Research and Development at the DOST (PCHRD-DOST); Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, Executive Director, Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development at the DOST (PCAARRD-DOST); Engr. Raul C. Sabularse, Deputy Executive Director, Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development at the DOST (PCIEERD-DOST); Dr. Maria Patricia V. Azanza, Director, Industrial Technology Development Institute at the DOST (ITDI-DOST); Engr. Nonilo A. Pena, Chief Science Research Specialist, Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development at the DOST (PCIEERD-DOST); Dr. Arnold C. Alguno, Professor at the Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology; Dr. Wilfredo L. Campos, Professor at the University of the Philippines–Visayas; Engr. Joel Joseph S. Marciano, Jr., Acting Director, Advanced Science and Technology Institute at the DOST (ASTI-DOST); and Ms. Charlene U. Basig, International Science Relations Officer III, International Technology Cooperation Unit at the DOST (ITCU-DOST).

PHL Ambassador Meynardo LB. Montealegre hosted dinner at his official residence in honor of the PHL delegation during their visit to Brunei Darussalam.

The ASEAN COST-73 and Related Meetings will be held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar later this year. END
