Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam Chargé d’Affaires, a.i. Pete Raymond V. Delfin received a Courtesy Call from officials of the Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry (MEMI) and the International Halal Trade Hub & Services Sdn. Bhd. (IHTHS) at the Philippine Embassy on 06 September 2018. The Embassy’s Political and Economic Assistants Frederick A. Rili and Anthony L. Acosta, Jr. joined Chargé d’Affaires Delfin during said meeting.

The MEMI and IHTHS officials present during the call included MEMI Acting Senior Special Duties Officer and Head of the Halal Industry Development Division (HIDD) Subandi bin Haji Kamis; Principal Mentor of the Cottage and Youth Initiative Programme (CYiP) and Advisor to the IHTHS Captain (Rtd) Zailan bin Pehin Dato Mohd Don; Advisor to the CYiP Lt. Col. (Rtd) Ramli Haji Abd Hadis; IHTHS Managing Director Hilman bin Abdullah; IHTHS Senior Executive Officer of the Public and Corporate Affairs Taufiq Hidayat; and IHTHS Business Coordinator Hazirah Rahman.

The matters discussed during the meeting include, among others, cooperation in the implementation of pilot projects under the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion; initiatives in support of Halal trade promotion; and joint-venture investment projects at the bilateral level and within the BIMP-EAGA platform.

IHTHS is a private sector organization collaborating with MEMI in promoting Brunei Darussalam to become an International Halal Trade Hub in support of the development of the BIMP-EAGA region as well as the ASEAN Economic Community.

The Courtesy Call by the Bruneian Halal Industry stakeholders is an initiative of Brunei to follow through on the 1st Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) under the MOU between the Philippines and Brunei on Halal Industry and Halal Export Development and Promotion convened in Bandar Seri Begawan on 09 August 2018.
