DR. SUSAN MERCADO MEETS WITH BRUNEI’S HEALTH MINISTER, PRESENTS WHO WESTERN PACIFIC REGIONAL DIRECTOR CANDIDATURE

Special Envoy of the President for Global Health Initiatives Dr. Susan P. Mercado met with Brunei’s Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad Isham bin Haji Jaafar (Minister Dato Isham) at the Ministry of Health (MoH) on 01 September 2018. Dr. Mercado was accompanied by Philippine Embassy’s Third Secretary and Vice Consul Jaybee B. Arguillas and Economic/Political Assistant Frederick A. Rili during the meeting.

The MoH Officials who were also present during the meeting include Dr. Pg Hj Md Khalifah bin Pg Ismail, Acting Director General of Medical and Health Services; Hjh Zahrah binti DP Hj Md Hashim, Director of Policy and Planning; Mr. Faisal bin DP Hj Kamis, Special Duties Officer II; Pg Hj Md Raizul Amir bin Pg Hj Idros, Health Education Officer; and Dk Fathin Nabilah binti Pg Hj Damit, Public Health Officer.

During the meeting, Dr. Mercado presented and requested support for her candidature for the position of Regional Director of the World Health Organization Western Pacific Regional Office (WHO-WPRO), at elections to be held during the 69th Session of the Regional Committee for the Western Pacific to be held on 08-12 October 2018 in Manila.

Minister Dato Isham welcomed Dr. Mercado’s nomination and conveyed Brunei’s support to the Philippines’ bid as Regional Director to the WHO-WPRO.

Dr. Mercado, for her part, expressed her appreciation to Brunei’s Health Minister for accommodating her request for meeting and for Brunei’s positive response to the Philippines’ candidature. She also thanked the Philippine Embassy for assisting her during her visit to Brunei Darussalam. END
