The Philippine Embassy is scheduled to close its doors for three days in light of upcoming holidays. The holidays are National Heroes Day (August 29), and Hari Raya Aidilfitri (August 31 and September 1). The Philippine Embassy will reopen on August 30 and September 2. Meanwhile, the Filipino Association of Brunei, in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy, will be showing a film of President Benigno Aquino's 'State of the Nation Address' at the COLA Parish Hall in the capital at 11am on August 21. In addition, during the school break, Filipino children between the ages of six to 14 can register for a free language and cultural enrichment programme running from 8.30am to 12.30pm on August 20 at the Philippine Embassy's new chancery in Jalan Kebangsaan, Bandar Seri Begawan. The twice-a-year programme offered by the Philippine Embassy in cooperation with the Brunei Filipino Educators Club of volunteer teachers and community members begins on August 20 and will end on September 2, and runs between 8.30am and 1.30pm. The seventh edition of the programme introduces Filipino children born and raised in Brunei to "Our language, history and culture to deepen their Filipino roots and sense of Filipino identity, enhance basic language skills, and help them prepare for further studies and/or travels to the Philippines", said Philippine Ambassador to Brunei, Nestor Z Ochoa. The registration form for the language and cultural enrichment programme is available for download from the philippinembassy brunei.net website. "As the programme shall run for only two weeks, students are requested to attend all sessions to maximise the benefit for the programme," said Minister Celeste V Balatbat. "Visitors transacting business at the new Philippine Embassy are requested to enter the main gate in front of the flag pole and park their vehicles in the public area," she added.
