The Filipino Association in Brunei (FAB) in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy through the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) recently concluded the year-end celebration dubbed as Pasko ng Pinoy 2010 for the Filipino expatriates in Brunei last Sunday, 05 December 2010 at the Sutra Function Hall, Rizqun Hotel in Gadong,Brunei. Pasko ng Pinoy aimed to give joy and spread goodwill among Filipinos who are away from home during this much awaited Christmas season. The celebration was organized by FAB headed by Ms Edel Bartholomew with the support of POLO headed by Dr. Elizabeth Recio plus the generous sponsors. The major sponsor was LBC Hari ng Padala, who brought Ms. Gizelle Sanchez as the guest artist during the event. Ms. Sanchez entertained the crowd with her song, dance and comic performance. Other major sponsors included among others, Baiduri Bank/Western Union who sponsored the lantern competition, while, Landbank of the Philippines, I-Remit and IPHO Remittance Center who sponsored the first, second and third prize for the caroling contest as well as Abdul Razak Holdings and the Rizqun Hotel,Jollibee and KFC. Three winners from the lantern making contest with the most creative Christmas lantern made from recycled materials were chosen and received cash prizes namely: 1st Prize, Zanorteans Group headed by Gary Bustaliño, 2nd Prize Mi Ultimo Group headed by Gloria Horton; and 3rd Prize Anggerek Group Headed by Filimon Punzalan. Three best Christmas caroling group were chosen from five choir group who entertained the OFWs with their Tagalog Christmas carols and dance interpretation that brought joy to the Filipino workers who attended the celebration. The 3-winning group received cash prizes namely: 1st Prize Ilonggohan Group with Conductor and Trainor Nolito Gregorio; 2nd Prize Santino's Angels Choir, with Conductor Wilfredo "Jojo" Lemque, Jr.; and 3rd Prize Lingkod Ni Kristo (LNK) Choir with Conductor Danilo T. Tusi; a consolation prize for Zanorteans Group with Conductor and Trainor Melchivar and Vicente Limetares was also awarded. During the event, Labatt Elizabeth O. Recio discussed reintegration program of the government being implemented by all PE-POLOs globally as well as the importance of contract verification at POLO and renewal of OWWA membership. The Pasko ng Pinoy 2010 celebration was attended by more than 600 OFWs and their families.
